As Advent season begins, one of the main themes that comes to the surface is love. Love is often understood through the lens of relationship or maybe even by experiencing the love of God. However, as we kick off this new Advent series “DEVOTION”, we want to take some time to really unpack this question; what do we love?
What do Ilove? Asking myself this question says a lot about me.
What do you love? Asking yourself this question says a lot about you.
What do we love? Asking ourselves this question says a lot about us, and at the end of the day the answer to this question describes what kind of people we are!
Everyday culture works overtime to cultivate the things we love, and by projecting meaning to it, culture naturally creates an attractive life of pursuit. As Christ followers, we read in the gospels when Jesus sums up the whole story of God in Deuteronomy 6:4-5: “…you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
Could it be that what we love is actually, at its core, what we worship?
This Advent we will explore the themes of love and worship and learn about rival liturgies and consumer spirituality that pulls for our attention. As we head towards Christmas, week by week, we will rediscover the heart of worship and some practices that can form our souls to be devoted to what matters most.
