“For through the Spirit, by faith, we eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness.”
December is around the corner and the first snowfall has already come to our city. The cold brisk air is settling into our neighbourhoods and the last of the leaves are falling off their trees succumbing to what seems to be the inevitable! We all know our world can begin to feel overwhelming around the holidays. We’re becoming more vulnerable and influenced by the busyness of culture leading up to Christmas! This reality of busyness can be challenging when we’re preparing for what’s ahead, for what is coming, beyond the final exams, beyond the last proposal, beyond that last meeting at work!
We see in the scriptures that Israel was also in advent— in waiting— anticipating—hoping— longing for rest, longing for the Messiah, longing for God’s kingdom to be revealed! It’s during this advent, in waiting, that we’re called deeper into rootedness— by preparing ourselves for the arrival of Jesus! This year, our desire is to intentionally anticipate the arrival of Jesus together! We’re encouraging one another to take a few minutes DAILY to connect with God, scripture with this theme for advent; “As We Wait”. We believe that as we develop this spiritual practice of engaging advent together, along with our entire family of churches and seminaries across Canada, that our December and Christmas will look a lot different than we thought!
