Our church has been engaged with the relief efforts in the West Island and beyond. Several Westsiders have helped with the sandbag push and various community needs last weekend, some partnering with Rhonda Massad and the regional food/toiletries collection at Fairview Mall and Plaza Pointe-Claire, and small crews have jumped in to to help those who had to evacuate homes salvage their personal belongings.
Moving forward, we want to consolidate our efforts as a church and encourage people to personally stay aware and serve where needed closest to their neighbourhoods.
We are so saddened by the loss many are experiencing and desire to help in effective ways. This is a great opportunity to be the church (locally and regionally) for our community.
Here are a few ways we can serve as a church:
Get on the drivers list at West Island Mission as they begin responding to those affected with much-needed food and toiletries for those who cannot pick up supplies. Contact Beth Weaver
Contact WIM directly to help them sort incoming donations. Contact Wendy Gariepy
Get on the volunteer list for updates on where you can serve locally as needs come up immediately. Contact Beth Weaver
Samaritan’s Purse is in Montreal ready to start clean up efforts with pastoral care as needed for victims. We’re working with other West Island churches in partnership with SP. REGISTER HERE. // SATURDAY, May 20, 1-3PM – details here.
Stay alert to needs closest to your area and serve where you can. Here’s a great Facebook Group that highlights updates needs and volunteer opportunities.
GIVE to support the ongoing relief.
We’re designating funds to West Island Community Shares (WICS) who will directly support local organizations in their relief and support in the coming months (e.g. WIM and On Rock will be supported from this fund).
Give to West Island Community Shares OR indicate ‘Flood Relief’ if you choose to give an additional amount beyond your regular offering through Westside; 100% of the funds designated will be sent to WICS.
